COMMACK SCHOOLS

The elementary program is enVision mathematics and is structured on the principle that children are able to apply and adapt acquired mathematical ideas to new situations when they develop deep conceptual understanding, which is understanding the ‘why’ in mathematics.  Students will be challenged to demonstrate their learning through concrete models, and visual representations as they progress to understanding mathematics in the abstract. The program focuses on the New York State Next Generation Mathematics Learning Standards and provides coherence between grades as well as links between related mathematics within grade-levels. Students will engage in problem solving experiences that challenge them to think critically as they apply mathematics to the real-world.
