CHS Junior Spearheads Clothing Drive for Appreciative County Officials
When Francesco D. took responsibility for organizing a winter clothing drive after the Suffolk County Department of Social Services put in a request to the district for assistance, the Commack High School junior was expecting maybe 40 bags filled with clothing to be donated.
CHS’ generosity more than tripled Francesco’s initial expectation.
And on Thursday, appreciative officials from the Department of Social Services — including commissioner John E. Imhof — stopped by CHS to pick up the winter clothing items.
Francesco, a member of the Italian Honor Society and varsity wrestler, as well as superintendent Dr. Jordan Cox helped the county officials load the donated items into their vehicle on Thursday afternoon.
As for Francesco’s impact on the results of the clothing drive, CHS vice principal Matt Keltos said: “He took the reins.”
