CHS Seniors Earn National Merit Finalist Recognition

A trio of CHS seniors have been recognized as National Merit Scholarship finalists.
Edwin J., Irene M. and Andreas M. achieved the distinction and were honored by superintendent Dr. Jordan Cox, assistant superintendent Timothy Russo, principal Carrie Lipenholtz and director of counseling Nicole Kregler on Friday.
The National Merit Scholarship Program is an annual academic competition among high school students for recognition and college undergraduate scholarships that began in 1955.
The program is conducted by National Merit Scholarship Corporation, a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance.
U.S. high school students enter the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which annually serves as an initial screen of more than 1.3 million entrants, and by meeting published program entry and participation requirements.
Three types of merit scholarship awards are offered to finalists: National Merit $2,500 scholarships, corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards, and college-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards.
