CHS Celebrates Winter Student-Athlete Success

Commack High School’s varsity winter student-athletes gathered on Monday night in the school’s auditorium to celebrate another successful season.
Senior wrestler Brady C. was selected boys athlete of the winter season, while girls basketball guard Sofia V. was selected girls athlete of the winter season, and cheerleading coaches Mary and Allison Zabransky were named the coach of the season.
Girls basketball, boys bowling and girls fencing won league titles during the winter season. Boys bowling also won the large school championship, while the league title was the girls fencing team’s fourth straight. And cheerleading was a two-time NHSCC qualifier and placed second at the Empire Regional Championships.
In wrestling, Bianca A. earned her second county championship and also claimed all-state honors after finishing third in the first-ever girls championship. On the boys side, Brady C. won a county championship at 190 pounds and also achieved all-state honors.
The boys winter track 4x800 relay team of Harris C., Ben M., Dylan M. and Aidan P. participated in the Millrose Games. And weight thrower Anthony P. was crowned county champion with a toss of 58 feet, 6.75 inches. Meanwhile, for the girls track and field team, Kathryn V. was crowned county champion in the triple jump.
Boys bowlers Luke J., an all-state selection, and Andrew S. each bowled perfect 300 games.
League MVP candidate Sofia V. tallied her 1,000th point
Athletic director Patrick Friel also saluted retiring coaches Paul Slackman and Tracie Morenberg.
