Ryan McGrath Receives Commack Star Award

Superintendent Dr. Jordan Cox presented the Commack Star Award to CHS chemistry teacher Ryan McGrath Monday afternoon during a faculty meeting at the high school. The award is given to staff members who exhibit outstanding commitment and leadership qualities throughout the district. McGrath received the highest number of nominations of any recipient to date for his work both in and out of the classroom.
McGrath was a leading advocate for the Commack High School greenhouse to benefit the Garden Club and students in the Life Skills program. His efforts also extended to the community through the restoration of the Marion Carll Farm. Dr. Cox noted that McGrath spent years planning and working on the grounds to establish a successful agricultural education program.
Students at Burr and Sawmill now participate in hands-on learning at the farm due to the foundation McGrath helped build. He spent many hours watering and tilling the land to prepare it for student use. Dr. Cox shared that McGrath continues to refine these lessons to ensure every student has a high quality experience.
Colleagues described McGrath as a humble leader who is admired for the care he shows to everyone in the building. One nomination stated that McGrath is a perfect representation of the values the Commack Star Award stands for in the district. Thank you Mr. McGrath for your dedication and congratulations on your professional excellence!
