Wood Park Hosts Hometown Heroes
Hometown heroes spent Friday morning at Wood Park Primary sharing details about their careers with students.
The heroes — primarily parents, and all relatives — have careers including firefighter, nurse, police officer, Army officer, PSEG lineman and engineer.
One of the special guests, Suffolk County police officer Robert Jinks, in fact, is a Wood Park alum. Officer Jinks is one of the district’s school resource officers.
The primary students even had the chance to try on the heroes’ gear.
The primary school curriculum focuses on community helpers, needs and wants, and goods and services. The speakers highlighted how they help the community and whether they provide a good or service.
The “Wood Park Community Heroes Day” program was an outgrowth of the school’s Site-Based Management Team.
